
Our Operations
The National Road Trauma Centre operates across the entire road trauma continuum, working to reduce the social, economic and personal impact of road trauma through prevention, education, collaboration, research and system improvement.
As a registered New Zealand Charitable Trust, our charitable purposes are recognised by Charities Services and guide the work we undertake nationally. Our activities include:
Prevention and Road Safety
Working with communities, government, industry and other organisations to promote a road system increasingly free of death and serious injury through education, collaboration, advocacy and evidence-informed initiatives.
Information and Education
Providing trusted information and educational resources to people affected by road trauma, their families, the wider community and professionals involved in prevention, emergency response, healthcare and recovery.
Patient-Centred Care and Recovery
Supporting improved access to information, referral pathways, rehabilitation and recovery services for people affected by road traffic injuries and associated trauma.
Research and Knowledge Translation
Promoting research, teaching and knowledge sharing that advances understanding of road trauma, improves policy and supports better outcomes across the health, emergency response and transport sectors.
Collaboration and Advocacy
Working alongside communities, clinicians, emergency services, researchers, government agencies and industry partners to improve systems, strengthen collaboration and encourage innovative approaches to road safety and patient care.
Recognition and Leadership
Promoting excellence and recognising outstanding leadership, innovation and contribution across road safety, emergency response, healthcare and rehabilitation through national initiatives, including the New Zealand Road Safety, Emergency Response and Healthcare Awards.
Supporting Our Charitable Purpose
Undertaking any other activities that the Trustees consider necessary or desirable to further the charitable purposes of the Trust and improve outcomes for individuals, families and communities affected by road trauma.At the Road Traffic Accident Trauma Charitable Trust trading as the National Road Trauma Centre, we take pride in our status as a registered Charitable Trust in New Zealand.
We were proudly founded in New Zealand and the first Charitable Trust of its kind.
Our work continues to evolve in response to emerging evidence, community need and opportunities to strengthen road safety, emergency response, healthcare and recovery across New Zealand. Through collaboration and innovation, we remain committed to improving outcomes for all those affected by road trauma.
